Domestic Violence
Domestic violence can be abusive behavior, physical or emotional harm caused to a person to whom they share a close relationship like a spouse, a relative, or an intimate partner. Domestic Violence Law provides criminal rules for punishing the abusers. Victims of domestic violence are protected under both federal and state laws and may seek relief in civil as well as criminal court.
Three types of laws are placed in India:
The Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005.:
This law protects the women in a family from the men of the same family. The women’s family members can be mother, wife, grandmother, and also women who are in a live-in relationship.
The Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961. :
This law is related to the dowry concept, where it punishes for the give ad take of dowry.
Section 498A of the Indian Penal Code.:
This law comes under where women who face the cruelty of husband or relative of husband at home that lead a woman to do suicide attempt. It disturbs the mental health of women.
